September 11th

For Americans, the eleventh of September will forever mark the tragedy which leveled two towers into smoldering ruin.  For those of Christendom, however, this day marks a different kind of tragedy- a tragedy that almost happened. On the eleventh of September, Christendom was almost in ruin.

To the soldiers on the walls of Vienna (who were commanded by Ernst von Starhemberg), it certainly seemed as the shadows lengthened that the armies of Jihad were victorious. By the next dawn, Vienna would be destroyed in flame and smoke. The Emperor, gathering his forces, could not possibly reach the city in time. And if Vienna fell, Europe would fall with it.

But as the morning star faded into the reddening sky, there came with dawn the sound of trumpets and hope was rekindled. The King of Poland Ján III Sobieski and his knights had honored their allegiance, and in the largest cavalry charge in history, the red banner bearing a white eagle quickly became the sign of the Victory of the Holy League against Jihad. The day was September 12, 1683, the Feast of the Holy Name of Mary, whose image was carried victorious through the Battle of Lepanto.

Austria and the American Left

To the American leftists, we must strongly bear in mind, Austria was far more wicked than Germany: It existed in contradiction to the Mazzinian principle of the national state, it had inherited many traditions as well as symbols from the Holy Roman Empire (doubleheaded eagle, black-gold colors, etc.), its dynasty had once ruled over Spain (another bête noire), had been leading in the Counterreformation, had headed the Holy Alliance, had fought against the Risorgimento, had suppressed the Magyar rebellion under Kossuth (who has a monument in New York), had morally supported the monarchical experiment in Mexico.

Hapsburg-this evoked memories of “Roman Catholicism,” of the Armada, the Inquisition, of Metternich, of Lafayette jailed in Olmütz, and Silvio Pellico in Brünn’s Spielberg fortress. Such a state had to be broken up, such a dynasty had to disappear. So finally the House of Austria went into exile and was replaced by a simple common man from Austria, allegedly a “house painter,” who drowned the world in a flood of blood and tears.”- Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn, Leftism

Does the World need a “Global Policeman”?

Defensor Gentium

Since the downfall of Christendom, the UN, the EU, and the United States have attempted fill the void. America in particular has stepped into the role of protector of the common order against the growing threats of terrorism. This has drawn much criticism from those who believe the American government is acting out of less altruistic motives, and has prompted the question: Does the World really need a nation acting as the “Global Policeman”?

It is essential to the International Common Good that order be maintained, and that lawful authority maintain it. So in a limited sense the answer is yes. The US, however is not a legitimate authority in this sense- even less so as the country roles down the slippery slope of immorality at breakneck speed. And really, this shouldn’t be surprising. As a nation attempts to wrestle with responsibilities that were not its own, it becomes unable to fulfill the responsibilities which it is truly bound to.

While the US tries (or had tried in the past) to protect the common order in the face of the vast collapse, this is still a pale (and unsuccessful) substitute for the tradition of Christendom. The threat which we struggle to face was very successfully countered; countered by the legitimate authority. The Holy Roman Emperor, the Defender of the Nations of Christendom, did know that his mission was to protect the Common Good, and true Morality was integral to his office. The Emperor, the Commander of the Armies of Christendom, could and did lead the West to victory, and certainly did this better than any “Global Policeman”.

The West is Europe… and Europe is the Empire

Holy Roman Empire Allegory

The broad modern mind will often narrow or even restrict ideas. I suppose it is a natural consequence of trying to cram all ideas equally into one’s head. The modern mind has narrowed the idea of Europe to an arbitrary geographical area and called it a continent. But let me tell you a secret; Europe is not a continent. Europe is a way of life.

the Holy Roman Church and the Holy Roman Empire are one and the same thing, in two aspects; and Catholicism, the principle of the universal Christian society, is also Romanism; that is, rests upon Rome as the origin and type of its universality; manifesting itself in a mystic dualism which corresponds to the two natures of its Founder. As divine and eternal, its head is the Pope, to whom souls have been entrusted; as human and temporal, the Emperor, commissioned to rule men’s bodies and acts.

A friend of mine suggested that I write a post on the undercover Planned Parenthood videos, so here I go:

As the oldest of a large family, I used to identify with a scene from the 1950’s movie Cheaper by the Dozen in which the mother of the Gilbreth family (a family of 12) is approached by a representative of Planned Parenthood. The distraught enthusiast of Population Control marches away amidst the laughter of the family. But I’m not laughing with them anymore.

The Political Situation of the Modern World

The Modern World

Most people these days are rightly concerned about the situation in their country. We’ve reached a point in history with an unprecedented amount of murder and mob rule, and quite frankly most countries are collapsing in on themselves. Catholics of every nation should and must fight to prevent the destruction of their country. However, we who are fighting to restore the Empire and protect the Church must never allow national considerations to cloud our ability to understand what’s happening to the World as a whole.

The War for Catholic Civilization

The highest end of a good Culture is a good Civilization. The end of an evil Culture is the destruction of Civilization. Now in order to understand this, it necessary to define both Culture and Civilization. To put it simply, Culture is the traditions, customs, and way of life and art rooted in religion that a people hold in common, while Civilization is the moral standard rooted in Culture by which we as individuals interact with others and make moral choices.

Now barbarians can and often have had Culture, which is not product but rather a cause of Civilization. The “Culture of Death” is as much a Culture as any authentic Catholic culture. The barbarians of today often tell us that we need to accept diversity and cultures. Yet they denounce Catholic Western Civilization. Why? Because Civilization is too hard for them, it requires them to make choices and change the way they live.

Their goal is to destroy Western Civilization, but the real danger is that if they succeed, something else will fill the void that they create. Islam is not a culture. Islam is a civilization that will replace the West if the barbarians win.  And we must not let that happen.

The World of THE WAR FOR CHRISTENDOM: More from Imperial History

Going through my copy of Cardinal Seldon’s important and monumental work, Imperial History, I came across two very interesting full color illustrations. Both are texts in the form of stylized Sacretemporal (Medieval) Manuscripts, and both inscriptions are in Old High German. The inclusion of these illustrations in color suggests that the book was very expensive to print, though no records of the productions costs of this book can be found.

The first is the Sacretemporal (medieval) text of the Prophecy of Six Crowns (my translation of which can be found here), compiled from various chronicles into a single text. The text is found in the chapter entitled The Rise of the House of Austria, and underneath the text is a pseudo-heraldic symbol representing the Prophecy:

The second illustration contains the original Old German text of the enigmatic poem, Wolves with the hair of Ermine, which is (like the other text) followed by a series of pseudo-heraldic symbols, representing the first ,second, and fifth verses of poem, which is found in the chapter entitled The Fall of Rome:

The translation on the facing page reads:

Wolves with the hair of Ermine
Crows that are crowned as Kings
Though these things be many as vermin
ONE shall outlast these things

In the mountains an EAGLE shall rise
The Flag of the Desert shall burn
Renewed forever shall be old allies
And the KNIGHT TWICE CROWNED shall return

Surprisingly, no translation is given for the third stanza, which I can only assume is the lost stanza beginning  A Sword shall be his token, in which case it is extremely interesting that no translation is given, as no complete version of the stanza is known to exist. It is also noteworthy that these verses are referenced as being attributed to a certain Blessed Heinrich Arnhold von Heiligwaldenstein, though no other records or mentions of this personage can be found.

Engelbert Dollfuss: Fascist… or Hero?

Engelbert_Dollfuss

I am convinced that it is the will of a higher power that we preserve our home country Austria with its glorious history, even though today in a smaller form, I am convinced that this Austria will be exemplary in the shaping of public life for other peoples, that in this Austria we must also have a great and valuable service to fulfill, and to fulfill to the whole of Germandom. This Austria remains our and our children’s homeland… Just as the crusaders were imbued with the same faith, as a Marco d’Aviano preached here before Vienna, “God wills it” – so we also see with great confidence in the future, in the conviction: God wills it

-Engelbert Dollfuss, Trabrennplatzrede

Born in Texing in Lower Austria on the fourth of October 1892, Engelbert Dollfuss is perhaps the second most controversial Austrian of the Interwar Period.  A devout Catholic and Patriot, he is often accused by the Left of being a Fascist. His government is criticized as being Totalitarian and Nationalistic. But was it really? Continue reading
